Special Agent Robert K. Ressler was the man who played a major role in profiling violent offenders. He coined the term "serial killer" during his career working in the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI in the 1970's. During his tenure he studied the thought process of psychopaths by interviewing 36 of America's most infamous serial killers including Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein, and Ted Bundy.
